Alexis Caviston-Ashmar Memorial Scholarship Fund

Established in August 2022, the Alexis Caviston-Ashmar Memorial Scholarship Fund was created in memory of Lexi, who was a 3rd year Nursing student at Mansfield University at the time of her diagnosis of Glioblastoma, the most lethal form of brain cancer. Despite multiple brain surgeries, radiation, chemotherapy, clinical trials and a myriad of other treatments, she graduated from Mansfield, cum laude in May of 2020. She endured her 5th and final brain surgery on June 1, 2020, returned home on hospice on June 12 and married the love of her life, Joshua Ashmar, RN, also a graduate of the Mansfield University Nursing program, on June 20, 2020. She maintained her sense of humor and strength throughout her final days and passed away on July 14, 2020 with her family and dear friends at her side. It was at her request that this scholarship has been established to help others fulfill their goal of becoming a nurse.

This fund will provide two (2) scholarship awards each year to support educational expenses for students. The two scholarships shall be awarded to a permanent resident of NEPA in the 3rd or 4th year of the Nursing Program at the Mansfield University School of Nursing and a graduating senior from Scranton High School who is a member of the Scranton Knight Rhythms and intends to pursue a degree in healthcare.
